90's - Moving towards the Millennium

1990

IDT acquires a 60% interest (now 100%) in a German barometer manufacturing company, Huger Barometer GmbH.

To further penetrate the European and the North American markets, IDT opens a sales and marketing subsidiary in the U.K. and acquires a 50% interest (now 100%) in a small U.S. company, Oregon Scientific, Inc.

1991

IDT further diversifies its product portfolio with acquisitions and joint ventures in two new product areas:

Electronic Stationery – IDT acquires a 50% interest in a Hong Kong company specializing in electronic LCD translator products.
Cordless Telephones – IDT acquires a 20% interest in Smoothline, a manufacturer specializing in the design and manufacture of cordless telephones. This interest is sold in early 1994 when IDT decides to invest in its own designs and manufacture its own telecommunications products.

1992
IDT enters the blood pressure monitor business in a joint venture with a Korean manufacturer in order to strengthen its electronic health-care product lines.

This is quickly followed by the acquisition of a 50% interest (now 100%) in a Hong Kong manufacturer of transceivers, Tekcom Industries Limited.


1993
IDT establishes three marketing subsidiaries in France, Italy and China to develop its business in these countries.

To adopt its strategy of product division, IDT creates 3 core product divisions: LCD Consumer Products, Personal Information Products (PIP), and Telecommunications Products.

1994

IDT enters into a 50/50 joint venture with an established Japanese PCB manufacturer, Kyosha Co., Ltd., to set up an automated, high-quality PCB factory in Panyu, China.

IDT launches the Oregon Scientific brand in Europe following the promotion of the brand in the U.S. market.

1995
IDT receives international ISO9002 certification for telecommunications products.

1997
IDT's largest product division, the LCD Consumer Products Division, is publicly listed on the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Ltd., as IDT Holdings (Singapore) Limited.

Oregon Scientific Inc. becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of IDT.

1998

Oregon Scientific Global Distribution Limited is established with headquarters in Hong Kong.

IDT establishes the Electronic Learning Products Division, which develops and markets product lines that include laptop learning computers for children, featuring animated characters.

The first weather station with wireless remote sensor is launched.

1999

IDT launches the first personal digital air-quality monitor. The tenth IDT international office was opened in Spain, serving the Iberian markets.
